Ferry back in two weeks

Coastal Inspiration will return to service Jan. 20, but the Duke Point berth it rammed will be out of commission for much longer, B.C. Ferries said Thursday.
The ferry had a "hard landing" at the Duke Point berth on Dec. 20. B.C. Ferries blamed a failure of electronic equipment on the bridge.
Coastal Inspiration is at the graving dock in Esquimalt. A new frontdoor hinge from the ferry's German manufacturer is expected to arrive Tuesday.
The berth at Duke Point, south of Nanaimo, will not be in service for another two or three months, B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall said. A contractor will be hired to repair the berth using a barge and crane.
All of the berth parts have to be inspected and tested before ferries can be taken back to Duke Point. Repair costs are still being assessed, Marshall said.
Ferries from Tsawwassen that normally use Duke Point have been diverted to Departure Bay.
