Saanich police arrest seller of stolen bike advertised on Craigslist
Jan 07 2012
A man selling a stolen bike on the online classified site Craigslist was arrested after Saanich police officers posed as interested buyers.
Police were called Thursday by a University of Victoria student who said his expensive mountain bike was stolen while he was away for Christmas, said police spokesman Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
The victim searched classified websites and sure enough, found his bike advertised.
Police officers set up a fake email account, posed as prospective buyers and arranged to meet with the seller, Jantzen said.
Officers retreived a Brodie mountain bike and returned it to the owner.
A 20-year-old Esquimalt man was arrested and is facing charges of possession of stolen property.
His name was not disclosed and he has been released until a future court date.
