North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have released a sketch of the man wanted in the violent abduction attempt of a woman on New Year’s Day.
The woman was walking in downtown Duncan, near the Caprice Theatre, around 5:30 a.m., when a man driving a dark blue, two-door car stopped and tried to force her into the car.
The man struggled with the woman near a park bench across from the theatre, and the woman was eventually able to fight him off and flee.
The man sexually assaulted the woman and kicked her several times in the stomach and back. She reported the assault at 6:20 a.m. and was treated at hospital.
Police believe this was a random attack.
The victim was able to provide a detailed description, and RCMP hope to catch the predator.
He is Caucasian, mid-to-late 40s or early 50s, about six feet tall with an average build. He had white, messy hair and was balding at the front. He has a tooth missing from the upper left side of his mouth.
He was wearing blue jeans, a white V-neck shirt, a dark blue waterproof jacket with a collar and black dress boots with a heel or cowboy boots. The man had a tattoo on the left side of his neck under his ear and a coloured tattoo on the right side of his chest that carried up to his shoulder.
He was driving a two-door Chevrolet Sunfire or Cavalier with damage to the passenger side.
Police are also looking to talk to a possible witness, the driver of a white, two-door short box pickup truck that was parked nearby at the time of the attack.
Anyone with information on the attack or the identity of the attacker should call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
