Central Saanich police to investigate RCMP complaint
Jan 20 2012
The RCMP have called in the Central Saanich police to investigate allegations that a Nanaimo Mountie injured a man during an impaired-driving arrest.
The 54-year-old Nanaimo man was arrested on Dec. 5, 2009, for impaired driving. Almost two years after the arrest, in November 2011, the man filed a complaint with the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP, alleging he was injured by the arresting officer.
The man was charged with impaired driving, but Crown counsel did not approve the charges.
E Division RCMP asked that Central Saanich police investigate the complaint, "in keeping with an open and transparent process of investigating allegations made against our officers," RCMP spokesman Cpl. Darren Lagan said in a press release.
Central Saanich police would not release the man's name.
