Road upgrade will create first full roundabout in Saanich
Jan 21 2012
The McKenzie Avenue-Finnerty Road intersection is to become the first full roundabout in Saanich, part of a larger plan to upgrade the McKenzie corridor from Gordon Head Road south.
There are already some smaller traffic circles within the municipality.
The roundabout was the subject of community consultation last fall.
Discussions have included the University of Victoria, where the intersection is located, and B.C. Transit, since the UVic transit exchange is nearby.
The intersection is currently controlled by traffic lights.
The proposal to change to a roundabout, along with other aspects of the plan, will be considered in Saanich's 2012 budget discussions.
The portion of the plan being looked at now takes in McKenzie from Gordon Head to just beyond Finnerty, where Sinclair Road begins. The cost is estimated at $3.5 million.
The plan is to eventually continue with improvements down Sinclair to Cadboro Bay Road.
