A Saltspring man is dead after he was recovered from the water in Ganges Harbour Sunday just after noon.
A live-aboard vessel was reported adrift at 11:47 a.m. yesterday. A nearby resident also reported the live-aboard was banging against his dock, the vessel having dragged its anchor in a wind storm. Winds in the area at the time were blowing at about 65 km/h.
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre was contacted and put out a call to vessels in the area.
A commercial vessel was first on the scene and recovered a man, estimated to be 65 years old, said coast guard officer John Millman.
The Coast Guard cutter Cape Naden was also on the scene to assist.
Paramedics tried to revive the man who was not breathing.
The victim was brought by ambulance to Lady Minto Gulf Islands Hospital on Salt Spring Island.
“He didn’t make it,” said Millman.
