Six-month Craigflower bridge closure preference of View Royal
Jan 24 2012
If View Royal council has its way, the aging Craig-flower bridge will be closed for six months during a period of intensive construction.
Public feedback helped the council select from several designs that had varying construction periods extending up to 18 months.
Council is still considering whether the bridge would maintain a temporary pedestrian crossing during construction.
" 'Get on with it, close it, shut it down and get it built,' was the message we heard," View Royal Mayor Graham Hill said Monday evening.
The bridge is owned by View Royal and Saanich and is part of the Admirals Road Corridor Improvement Project, which will be funded with a $10-million grant from federal gas taxes.
Saanich council has yet to announce a decision on the plan it prefers.
