Victoria police believe they have ended a "one-woman shoplifting spree" with the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect.
Police said reports of shoplifting incidents had been pouring in from around the city. A suspect was arrested last week after security personnel at the Bay Centre alerted police to thefts occurring there.
Security said staff at several stores had seen someone cutting off theftprevention tags before fleeing with clothing items.
Victoria police Const. Mike Russell said a large amount of stolen goods has since been recovered.
A search of a cabinet at a Burdett Avenue address yielded thousands of items., he said.
Russell said officers have spent four days cataloguing all of the evidence and are only halfway through.
Clothing wasn't all that was taken.
"They found shopping bags full of lipstick and powder," he said.
Charges of mischief and possession of stolen property are being recommended.
