United Way has new chairman for 2012
Jan 27 2012
CIBC's John Guthrie has been announced as chairman of the 2012 United Way campaign. He steps in for 2011 chairman Greg Conner of HP Advanced Solutions.
Guthrie's introduction came at the Victoria Conference Centre this week during an event to announce the 2011 United Way campaign total, which came in at $5.9 million - 94 per cent of the $6.3-million target. The event was also a chance to honour some of the campaign's key participants with Spirit Awards that are given out annually.
Winning in one of the newer categories, the Outstanding Campaign Committee, was the Times Colonist. The award is given for team spirit, campaign results and adherence to United Way ideals.
One of the top honours, the Triple Crown Award, goes to a nominee that has improved in three areas. This year's co-winners were HMCS Vancouver and HMCS Regina.
Another prize, the Naden Band Spirit of Excellence Award, came out of a highly regarded campaign effort by the band several years ago. The 2012 recipient was the Canada Revenue Agency.
Other winners included the Canadian Food Inspection Agency with the Quantum Leap Award, which recognizes the biggest fundraising increase from the previous year.
The United Way of Greater Victoria is marking its 75th anniversary in 2012.
