Ferry back in service after hard landing at Duke Point
Jan 28 2012
The Coastal Inspiration, sidelined since a hard landing at Duke Point in December, is back in service between Departure Bay and Tsawwassen.
The B.C. Ferries vessel returned Wednesday after being damaged Dec. 20. The incident was connected to a problem with the boat's propulsion system.
The Duke Point terminal is not scheduled to be ready for ferry traffic until mid-April, said B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall.
The Coastal Inspiration will remain on the Departure BayTsawwassen run until the repairs at Duke Point are complete.
The Coastal Inspiration's bow doors were damaged in the incident and a new part had to be ordered, Marshall said.
The issue that caused the incident has also been addressed.
There is no firm estimate of the cost of repairs, although the repairs to the terminal alone will run to several million dollars.
