Four false alarms will bring fine in Esquimalt
Jan 28 2012
Esquimalt has brought in a new false-alarm bylaw that will trigger a fine after a property has four false fire alarms within the same year.
The new regulation calls for a letter to be sent to a property owner or building manager after three false alarms, requesting that they work with the municipality in addressing the issue. A $200 fine will be levied for a fourth false alarm and any subsequent false alarms.
The bylaw also gives the municipality the ability to recover costs when fire crews are tied up at an incident for more than 30 minutes while they wait for a property owner to appear.
