Victorian's song remix makes splash on Rolling Stone website

A local producer has hit the main page of Rolling Stone magazine's website thanks to his retro-leaning remix of one of the world's hottest songs.
Victoria native Michael Glover, a DJ and producer who performs under the moniker Miami Nights 1984, is featured prominently in the New Music section of rollingstone.com, which has spotlighted the producer's synth-pop remix of the hugely popular Gotye hit, Somebody That I Used To Know.
Glover, who made the remix on his own a month ago, eventually sold its rights to the Australian multi-instrumentalist, whose team has since used it for promotional purposes. Gotye's latest album, Making Mirrors, was released Tuesday in North America.
After some re-tweaking approved by Gotye himself, Glover was ecstatic to learn that his work would appear on one of the most-read music websites in the world.
"Gotye was taken away by it," Glover said Tuesday. "Of all the remixes he had heard, the only ones he liked were mine and the one by Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys."
Glover has an album coming out in February or March on the label he co-founded, Rosso Corsa Records, which specializes in '80s-friendly dance music. He is also scoring the soundtrack to Jackhammer, a locally shot film.
The Rolling Stone experience — which included Will Smith posting on Twitter about the remix — has taught Glover that nothing is impossible, even from the confines of Victoria.
"I have a great support group on Facebook, they are really good to me. But I am new to Twitter, and the response there for the remix has been amazing."
