Mom, two sons escape suspicious mobile-home fire in Sooke

Feb 05 2012

A fire that engulfed a mobile home in Sooke Saturday may have been deliberately set.

"Right now, it appears to be suspicious," said Sooke Fire Chief Steve Sorensen.

"Some things just don't add up, although they could turn out to be nothing."

Sorensen is planning to return to the Sooke Road mobile home park today, accompanied by RCMP, to look for the fire's cause.

A woman and her two sons, 12 and eight, escaped safely after the fire started at 5: 20 p.m. The front of the single-wide mobile home was badly damaged. The family, whose names were not disclosed, had no insurance, Sorensen said. The fire was attended by 23 Sooke Fire Department volunteers who prevented the blaze from spreading to the adjacent mobile home.
