Police seek witnesses as pedestrian hit
Feb 10 2012
RCMP are looking for witnesses to an incident in which a man was struck by a semi-truck south of Duncan.
Police were called about 8 p.m. Wednesday by drivers who saw a man walking back and forth across the Trans-Canada Highway between Boys Road and the Cowichan River bridge. When Mounties arrived, they found a man lying in the ditch near the southbound lanes.
The 36-year-old Duncan man was taken to Victoria General Hospital with broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
A witness told officers the man was struck by a southbound semi-truck that did not stop. It is possible the driver was unaware he struck the pedestrian, police said.
Mounties also want to contact another male who was seen talking to the man shortly before the incident.
The investigation has determined that the man was upset by personal issues before walking onto the highway.
