Victoria Parolee contacted teen on Facebook
Feb 10 2012
An alert parent in New Orleans, concerned about the older man contacting his teenage daughter on Facebook, helped Victoria police put a high-risk offender back in jail.
Douglas Ehret, 47, formerly on parole in Victoria and now in Vancouver, was contacting a 16-year-old girl in New Orleans, Victoria police spokesman Const. Mike Russell said.
The girl's father became concerned and did a Google search of Ehret's name, which led him to VicPD's website with a public notification when he was released in Victoria in 2010.
Ehret has a long criminal history, with convictions for attempted forcible confinement, break and enter, assault and luring.
Victoria police warned in 2010 that Ehret was a significant risk to women. He had a history of targeting or luring females who were alone.
Victoria police contacted Ehret's parole officer in Vancouver. His parole was suspended since he was breaching conditions to avoid contact with women unless he reports it to his parole officer, Russell said.
Russell noted that Safer Internet Day was Tuesday. The event encourages parents to talk to their children about Internet safety.
