Cabbie and fare arrested after crash

Both a cabbie and his fare ended up in police custody after a taxi was driven from the scene of an accident.
Victoria police spokesman Const. Mike Russell said the driver took off after colliding with another vehicle at Esquimalt Road and Lampson Street about 11 p.m. Sunday.
Officers tracked the taxi to View Royal and found that the driver was violating a court-imposed curfew.
"Meanwhile, the taxi's fare was recognized as a prolific property-crime offender, and the suspect of several [break-and-enter] investigations," Russell said.
The 44-year-old passenger was found with a digital camera that had been reported stolen, as well as tools.
Both men were arrested. The passenger was released on a promise to appear in court on March 26, while the driver ended up with a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident. The cab was towed.
