Pedestrian struck on Old Island Highway

A 27-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car on the Island Highway Tuesday night.
The man was crossing the highway near Helmcken Road around 7:50 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, said View Royal fire chief Paul Hurst.
View Royal Fire, West Shore RCMP and B.C. Ambulance rushed to the scene.
The man’s injuries involved significant trauma, Hurst said.
He was transported to Victoria General Hospital. There is no word on his condition this morning.
The road was closed until 11 p.m.
West Shore RCMP could not be reached last night for details on the cause of the crash.
