Couple set up cancer research fund

After 26 years of marriage, Danny and Sandy Jadresko decided to make Valentine's Day 2012 an extra-special one.
The couple decided to make a Valentine donation of $100,000 through the B.C. Cancer Foundation to create the Danny and Sandy Jadresko Cancer Research Fund.
The Jadreskos, owners of realestate development firm Woodmere Holdings Corp., were intent on supporting leading-edge cancer research. They also wanted to honour Danny's mother for being an 11-year survivor of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
"We were impressed and inspired by the level of dedication the researchers and caregivers have," Sandy said in a statement.
Danny said the late Alex Campbell Sr., co-founder of Thrifty Foods, was a friend and mentor, and inspired his interest in local cancer-research efforts at the B.C. Cancer Agency's Vancouver Island Centre.
Dr. Peter Watson, chief physician at the Vancouver Island Centre, said supporters like the Jadreskos can seed important research projects.
Danny said he hopes the donation by him and Sandy will inspire others to give.
