Break-in artist a real piano man
Feb 15 2012
The first sign of trouble was the sound of the piano playing.
Two teens, a boy and a girl, were at home in Saanich when a drunken stranger stumbled in, played the piano, and then headed outside to take a spin on the boy's skateboard.
The frightened 17yearold girl called police about 2 p.m. Sunday when she heard the sound of piano keys and went downstairs to find a drunken man, said Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
The man uttered a racial slur at the two teens, who are from Asia visiting relatives, and then went outside to play on the skateboard.
Police believe he ended up at the house after driving drunk behind the wheel of a pickup truck pulling a U-Haul, which he crashed heading north on Shelbourne Street. He drove several blocks on three wheels and a broken axle.
The man was screaming and combative with officers when they arrived. He refused to provide a breath sample.
A 23-year-old Saanich man is facing charges of unlawfully entering a dwelling and refusal to provide a breath sample.
Jantzen didn't know what tune the man was playing.
