An elderly woman has died from her injuries after being struck by a car earlier this week.
The 86-year-old Sidney woman was using a walker and crossing Henry Avenue at Seventh Street at a marked cross walk around 2 p.m., said Sidney/North Saanich RCMP spokesman Cpl. Chris Swain.
A 26-year-old Saanich woman driving a Toyota Yaris heading north on Seventh Street stopped and made a left-hand turn onto Henry Avenue when she hit the elderly woman in the crosswalk.
The driver and witnesses stopped and rendered assistance until police and ambulance could arrive.
The woman died of her injuries on Tuesday.
“Our thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time,” Swain said, adding the family requested the woman’s name not be released.
The driver of the vehicle has been cooperative with police.
Swain said she was released without charge but traffic analysts continue to investigate and will submit a report to crown counsel who will have the final say on charges.
