Oceanside RCMP are looking for two men who broke into a grocery store in Nanoose early this morning using a stolen van as their getaway vehicle.
Around 3:30 a.m., officers arrived at the Quality Foods at Red Gap and saw that the front doors had been smashed, said Sgt. Darrell Robertson.
Displays were knocked over, and investigators believe the thieves were looking for cigarettes but could not find them.
The burglars were in and out quickly but were captured on surveillance footage, Robertson said. It shows two men with black hoodies over their faces, both wearing jeans. One man had a light-coloured baseball cap.
They left in a mid-1990s Dodge Caravan, which might have been stolen from a Qualicum Beach home before the smash and grab.
Officers from Port Alberni RCMP’s forensic identification section are assisting in the investigation.
