A 30-year-old Langford man who crashed his vehicle into a parked car in a neighbourhood in Esquimalt on the weekend died Wednesday morning.
It’s the first fatal crash in Victoria or Esquimalt in 2012.
Victoria police said Thursday morning that their investigation shows the driver’s blood alcohol level was over three times the legal limit and speed was also believed be a contributing factor.
On Sunday morning a Honda Prelude hit a parked car and retaining wall in the 800-block of Rockheights Avenue.
The collision was so severe that most of the car was destroyed, according to Victoria police. Esquimalt Fire and Rescue had to extract the driver.
Early Wednesday morning the coroner contacted Victoria police to say the driver had died.
The Victoria Police Department “would like to extend our sincere sympathies to this man’s friends and families at this difficult time,” said Const. Mike Russell, in a news release.
The last fatal collision in Victoria occurred on Nov. 28, 2011.
