Assault charges stayed against police officer

Assault charges against a Victoria police officer have been stayed.
Crown spokesman Neil MacKenzie said two counts of assault against Const. Brent Keleher in relation to a 2008 incident were stayed, cancelling a trial that would have started this week.
"One of the complainants couldn't be located - and the other complainant preferred that the matter not proceed," MacKenzie said. "In the circumstances here, the prosecutor dealing the case concluded that - the public interest didn't require proceeding with the case."
Const. Ryan Young, a Victoria officer involved in the same incident, pleaded guilty last year to similar counts and was given a conditional discharge, along with a year of probation.
The complaints against the officers were made by brothers Trevor and Jeffrey Meyers, who had been arrested Oct. 18, 2008, for public intoxication. Keleher was charged with assaulting Jeffrey in a police vehicle and at the police station. Young was charged with assaulting both Jeffrey and Trevor at the station.
