March 5-11 named Stop Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week
Mar 06 2012
The Victoria Police Department has joined with the provincial government to mark Stop Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week.
Const. Mike Russell said the week extends from March 5-11, and this is the 14th year that the government has been involved.
"It's a problem that's not always seen," he said of sexual exploitation of those younger than 18. "We may think it doesn't happen in our communities. Sadly, it does happen around the [Capital Regional District]."
The Mobile Youth Service Team, a regional initiative, was created 10 years ago to address this exploitation, Russell said.
