Drug deal made as 11 plainclothes police officers walk by

It was an ill-timed drug deal for two people in downtown Victoria when they made the exchange in front of 11 plainclothes officers walking by after a training session.
The Victoria police officers were near the intersection of Quadra Street and Pandora Avenue about 4 p.m. Thursday when they saw a man and woman “standing together furtively checking the street scene around them,” said deputy police chief John Ducker in a blog post.
When the officers saw the man pass small objects to the woman, four of them ran across the road, identified themselves as cops and arrested the woman.
The man took off and two plainclothes officers chased after him, arresting him a short distance away. During the struggle, a pill bottle containing rocks of crack cocaine fell from his pocket.
The woman, facing drug possession charges, was released on a promise to appear in court. The man is also facing drug possession charges.
Ducker said the 11 officers are part of the Focused Enforcement Team, which targets the downtown core.
