Drug-impaired new driver fined
Mar 10 2012
A beginner driver on his way to complete his novice driving test hit a roadblock when he was stopped by Saanich police and found to be driving while high.
A traffic officer stopped the driver Tuesday afternoon when he saw the truck go across the centre line on McKenzie Avenue near Rainbow Street, said police spokesman Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
The cop suspected the driver was impaired, and the 32-year-old admitted to taking prescription drugs. He was given a 24-hour suspension.
The driver also received a $109 ticket because his passenger, who is prohibited from driving, isn't a qualified supervisor.
The car was towed and impounded. The man did not take his exam. --
