Distraught man fires shots inside Gorge Road apartment

A distraught 56-year-old man fired several shots inside a Gorge Road East apartment building early Saturday morning before surrendering to police.
The situation started just prior to midnight and ended peacefully about 4:30 a.m. after the man gave himself up to negotiators from the regional Emergency Response Team. The incident began when the man called 9-1-1 in an emotional state.
Victoria police evacuated several buildings, and a B.C. Transit bus was called in to provide residents with temporary shelter.
The man has no history police and was alone in the suite. He was arrested under terms of the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.
