Car thief caught in Beacon Hill Park

Victoria police caught a well-known car thief in the act Sunday evening, as he tried to jimmy a lock with a butter knife.
Officers found the 34-year-old man trying to get into a car in Beacon Hill Park after witnesses had reported a man trying car doors in the area.
The man had in his possession items believed to be stolen from other cars nearby, police said.
The Victoria man has a lengthy criminal record. He is facing charges of possession of break-and-enter instruments, possession of stolen property and two court breach charges.
