Capital region dodges bullet as wind warnings issued for much of Vancouver Island

Greater Victoria is likely to avoid the blustery winds expected to whip across most regions of Vancouver Island between Sunday and Monday evenings, Environment Canada said Sunday.
Strong winds were expected to develop late Sunday or early Monday in the eastern, western and northern parts of the Island, Environment Canada said in issuing wind warnings that did not apply to the southern tip of the island.
An intense storm was to move over the B.C. coast late Sunday. Winds were expected to reach up to 110 kilometres an hour over Haida Gwaii and up to 90 km/h on the east and west sides of Vancouver Island.
