Man rescued after clinging to capsized boat for 12 hours

A man who clung to his capsized fishboat for 12 hours Wednesday is recovering from hypothermia in Kyoquot, 130 km northwest of Tofino.
The man had gone fishing in his 20-foot vessel on Wednesday morning but when he didn’t return by 9 p.m., family reported him missing. The Victoria Rescue Co-ordinaton Centre dispatched the coast guard ship Tanu, a Cormorant helicopter and a Buffalo aircraft.
The man was found at 12:45 a.m. in three-metre swells. He told rescuers his boat had capsized at 1 p.m.
He was taken to the nursing station at Kyoquot to be treated for hypothermia.
