Apr 13 2012

A man who clung to his capsized fishboat for 12 hours Wednesday is recovering from hypothermia in Kyoquot, 130 km northwest of Tofino.

The man had gone fishing in his 20-foot vessel on Wednesday morning but when he didn’t return by 9 p.m., family reported him missing. The Victoria Rescue Co-ordinaton Centre dispatched the coast guard ship Tanu, a Cormorant helicopter and a Buffalo aircraft.

The man was found at 12:45 a.m. in three-metre swells. He told rescuers his boat had capsized at 1 p.m.

He was taken to the nursing station at Kyoquot to be treated for hypothermia.
