Saanich names new top civil servant

Saanich has a new top civil servant.
Finance director Paul Murray has been named the municipality’s administrator.
He replaces Tim Wood, who is retiring, as of June 1.
Saanich, the region’s largest municipality, had more than 100 applicants for the job, said Mayor Frank Leonard.
The municipality worked with an outside consultant to create a shortlist. Another consultant then did an appraisal of the preferred candidate, Leonard said.
Murray has been with the municipality since 2001, having previously been the financial director in both Central Saanich and Langford. He came to Saanich as the director of corporate projects and became the director of finance in 2004.
Murray is a CGA and has a masters degree in public administration. He is president of the B.C. Financial Officers Association and a director in the Local Government Management Association.
