Power outages hit Oak Bay

Apr 23 2012

A faulty hydro cable blacked out television sets in a portion of Oak Bay before the start of Sunday night’s broadcast of the National Hockey League playoff game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Los Angeles Kings.

About 1,700 customers around Windsor Park, near Beach Drive and Currie Road, experienced a power outage around 1:30 p.m.

B.C. Hydro expected repairs to be complete by about 7:30 p.m., shortly before the Canucks' season-ending game wrapped up in overtime.

Fans looking to watch their team avoid elimination in the opening series against the Kings had to go elsewhere to catch the action.

The outage stretched from Cranmore Road to Central Drive and from Beach Drive to near Foul Bay Road.

The outage was the second in the area Sunday. Power was restored in an area near Newport Avenue for about 1,000 customers around 5:30 p.m.
