Police believe stabbing victim was attacked by his nephew
Apr 25 2012
A man arrested for a stabbing at a Gorge Road residence is the nephew of the victim, Saanich police said.
The injured 58-year-old uncle is now resting at his home, where the stabbing occurred last Friday, and is fortunate to have survived, Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen said.
"Luckily, the gentleman who had been stabbed made his way to the neighbour's house for assistance, and assistance was summoned immediately."
The victim had a collapsed lung and suffered significant blood loss, Jantzen said.
"In the words of the detectives, it's really just luck that this wasn't far more serious."
John Todd Hewitt, 45, has had a telebail hearing and is due for a court appearance this week. He has been remanded in custody.
"Detectives have requested a psychiatric evaluation," Jantzen said.
A single count of aggravated assault has been recommended.
