Three charged in jewelry heist

Victoria police have charged three people in connection with a brazen daytime jewelry heist that led to a police chase throughout downtown on Thursday.
Two 27-year-old Vancouver men, Michael Jacob Werner and Dominic Oyango Wandolo, are charged with robbery with a weapon and multiple counts of breach of probation.
Amanda Kristina Shier, a 21-year-old Vancouver woman, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
All three appeared in court Friday and have been remanded in custody. Shier is due for another court appearance May 3, and Werner and Wandolo are scheduled to appear again May 14.
The men allegedly walked into Paul Mara Jewellers at the corner of Fort and Broad streets, peppersprayed the staff and smashed several cases to get jewelry.
Members of the public chased the two men through the streets, took pictures and directed police where to go.
The Greater Victoria Emergency Response team swarmed the Bedford Regency Hotel on Government Street. The woman was arrested immediately but the men hid on the roof. Police used a ladder truck from the Victoria Fire Department to reach them.
Police searched a suite in the Bedford Hotel Thursday night and recovered most of the stolen jewelry and a replica handgun they believe was used in the robbery.
Detectives continue to investigate and could recommend more charges.
