Man stabbed downtown Sunday morning

A man suffering from a stab wound to his abdomen took a taxi to hospital early Sunday, Victoria police report.
The man, in his late 30s, has undergone surgery because the stabbing pierced several of his vital organs, police said. He remains in stable condition at Victoria General Hospital.
Police were canvassing the area around the intersection of Broad and View streets, where the incident is believed to have occurred just after 3 a.m. Officers planned to wait until the man recovers from surgery before interviewing him, police say.
The man told hospital staff that someone tried to rob him just after he left a downtown nightclub, police said. When he didn’t co-operate, he was stabbed.
