Mother found dead in Hillside apartment

May 25 2012

Victoria police are investigating the sudden unexplained death of a 24-year-old mother found dead in her Hillside Avenue apartment on Tuesday.

Jasmine Kellington was found inside her apartment suite at 1310 Hillside Ave. by her father, who went to check on her about 5: 30 p.m., said Victoria police spokesman Const. Mike Russell.

Kellington had a three-year-old daughter and, according to her Facebook page, studied at the University of Victoria.

Police have not been able to determine how Kellington died, but there were no obvious signs of struggle or foul play, Russell said. Police do not believe Kellington lived a high-risk lifestyle or used drugs.

One first-floor resident, who did not want to give his name, said he called 911 after Kellington's father discovered her in the suite. The resident took care of the three-year-old while the father dealt with police. It's not clear if the little girl was in the suite with her mother or with Kellington's father.

Russell would not confirm reports that Kellington was pregnant.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is investigating.

The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating and will conduct an autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death.
