Airport crash woman, 83, admits driving charge

A Saanich woman whose car hit and killed a man and injured six others at Victoria International Airport last July pleaded guilty Thursday to driving without due care and attention.
Shirley Murray Zerbin, 83, will be sentenced in Victoria provincial court on June 12.
Crown counsel reviewed the investigation by Sidney-North Saanich RCMP and considered it appropriate to charge Zerbin under the Motor Vehicle Act rather than the Criminal Code. Zerbin is no longer driving.
At the time of the crash, Sidney-North Saanich RCMP and witnesses said a white sedan drove through the airport's short-term parking lot, over curbs, across the terminal's access road and onto a raised berm, where it hit and scattered a group of Yellow Cab drivers.
The car continued through a luggage cart stand and stopped when it ran into a security building, witnesses said.
Ramesh Sharma, 57, a father of three, was killed. Six taxi drivers were injured.
