Drinking and driving probe follows crash

Alcohol was a factor in a two-car crash on the Malahat in Shawnigan Lake in which a Mazda car rear-ended a Chevrolet motorhome then hit a cliff face, police said.

Shawnigan RCMP, Malahat Fire and B.C. Ambulance attended about four kilometres north of Whittaker Road Wednesday night.

The 48-year-old driver of the Mazda was taken to Victoria General Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. The man, from Sooke, is being investigated for criminal charges of drinking and driving.

A Nanaimo couple in the motorhome, were unhurt.
