Victoria police have released a photo of a man suspected of attacking an 80-year-old woman and stealing $600 from her purse on Saturday.

At 4: 50 p.m. at Fort and Langley streets, a man pushed the woman to the ground and stole her purse, which had $600 inside, said Sgt. Colin Brown.

Many people, including the victim, tried to chase the suspect down, which led police to the Bay Centre.

Victoria police have obtained an image of him from the mall's surveillance cameras.

The suspect was wearing a black hoodie but disposed of it in the first floor bathroom. He is described as a six feet tall with a medium build. He has short, dark hair and some facial hair. He has a distinctive scar on his face.

The woman sustained bruises on her right forearm and knee.

Anyone with information is asked to call Victoria Police at 250-995-7654 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
