Police seek witness in RCMP crash
Jun 13 2012
Saanich police are looking for a key witness in a crash involving a North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP cruiser and a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway this month.
A 23-year-old woman was injured after a police cruiser heading to a domestic-dispute call on the highway collided with her Hyundai while she was making a left-hand turn onto Miller Road around 7 p.m. June 3.
Saanich police investigators have spoken with witnesses who saw the cars just before the collision and shortly after, but they're missing the one driver who might have seen the impact, said police spokesman Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
Police believe there was a black SUV or Jeep behind the Hyundai in the left-turning lane, but for some reason, the driver wasn't interviewed by crash investigators.
"We don't have a witness to the collision, other than the two drivers, so we are looking to speak to that driver," Jantzen said.
Police have not determined how fast either car was going or whether the cruiser was using its emergency lights.
Anyone with information is asked to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321.
