5,000 marijuana plants worth $1 million seized

RCMP seized 5,000 marijuana plants worth an estimated $1 million and arrested nine people after busting two large outdoor grow-ops in Errington and Beaver Creek.
Mounties from the Island district, Oceanside and Port Alberni detachments raided two large rural properties on Tintern Road in Errington and Beaver Creek Road in Beaver Creek on June 6.
At each site, four industrial-sized greenhouses were being used to cultivate marijuana, police said. About 2,500 pot plants were seized from each property, with a total street value of more than a million dollars.
Nine people were arrested, including Canadian and Polish citizens. Investigators believe the nine people are linked to the two properties and have been growing the marijuana for years in a variety of locations.
All nine people were released from custody until court appearances in mid-September.
The investigation continues and the RCMP is asking anyone with information to call Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
