Suspected meth lab dismantled by Shawnigan Lake RCMP
Jun 22 2012
A suspected meth lab in Shawnigan Lake was shut down this week when a dozen Mounties swarmed a house in the 1600 block of Shawnigan Lake Road.
RCMP have an arrest warrant out for the prime suspect, who is at large.
Shawnigan Lake RCMP searched the residence and surrounding outbuildings Tuesday morning and found methamphetamine, chemicals suspected of being used to make methamphetamine, and street-level drugs including mushrooms and ecstasy.
Shawnigan Lake RCMP became aware of the possible drug operation after an assault between two residents in the home on Monday.
The search required the help of a police dog team from North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, an RCMP clandestine-lab team and Mounties from the Island district federal drug section.
Investigators indicated there were no environmental concerns. An environmental company removed the harmful chemicals.
The home was empty at the time of the raid.
Mounties are looking for the suspect, a man in his 30s. Shawnigan Lake RCMP are waiting for the Crown to approve assault and drug charges and have not released the man's name.
