A man in his 20s was released from Saanich police custody on Thursday evening and will face an assault charge when he appears in Victoria provincial court on Aug. 8.
Saanich police swarmed Colquitz Middle School, located on Dumeresq Street off Interurban Road, after receiving reports Thursday afternoon that a student was hit by pellet-gun fire.
The student wasn't injured, but was upset by the incident, police said.
The weapon, later seized by police, was fired from a neighbouring home.
A 21-year-old man was arrested at a nearby home and detained by Saanich police until 10: 30 p.m., when he was released on a promise to appear in court.
