UVic CUPE locals serve strike notice
Jun 26 2012
Two Victoria locals of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, both located at the University of Victoria, served 72-hour strike notice Monday.
CUPE 917 and 951 include 1,500 members who have been without a contract since March 31, 2010.
Areas of dispute posted on the CUPE website involve wages, additional hours worked by part-time staff, emergency medical leave, job evaluations, job security and costofliving adjustments.
The union locals include groundsworkers, janitors, painters, food-service staff and security officers as well as office, technical and child-care workers on campus.
A vote held this spring was strongly in favour of striking.
