Speeding driver almost runs over police officers

Police officers narrowly avoided being run over when a man sped through a roadblock on Blanshard Street.
Police saw that a northbound 2003 Nissan Murano was not slowing down as it approached the roadblock, which was checking for drunk drivers around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.
“Luckily, one of our officers saw [the car] coming and blasted the air horn to warn the others,” said Saanich police spokesman Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
One officer pressed himself up against a parked vehicle to get out of the way, while others ran off the road waving their arms telling the driver to pull over.
Police in two patrol cars followed the vehicle and pulled the driver over near Saanich Road. A 30-year-old Victoria resident was taken into custody.
Breath test results indicated alcohol levels more than double the legal limit, police said.
Investigators are preparing charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving.
“We try to mitigate the risks out there with lights and cones, but there’s only so much you can do with someone who is intent on forcing their way through,” Jantzen said.
