Cougar warning issued for Saanich at south side of Rithet's Bog

Saanich residents are being warned to be cautious after a cougar was spotted Monday evening close to the path on the south side of Rithet’s Bog, near Emily Carr Drive.
It is unlikely the cougar will stay in the area, but people should be aware of it, Saanich police Sgt. Alan Gurzinski said.
“We have been told they are very transient and shy away from humans,” he said.
The corridor from Mount Douglas Regional Park through Rithet’s Bog is a common route taken by wildlife, he said.
Pets should be leashed and a close eye kept on small children.
