Police seize 400 pot plants in Esquimalt

Victoria police confiscated 400 marijuana plants worth an estimated $150,000 from an Esquimalt home this week.
Officers arrested a 62-yearold man who was tending the massive growing operation on Parklands Avenue, say police.
"It's a relief to recover the drugs, but also a relief to the neighbourhood," said Const.
"Grow-ops pose a number of health and safety hazards. With faulty electrical wiring and the potential for grow-rips, they're a real threat to the community's well-being."
The department's Strikeforce and Street Crime Unit had been monitoring the home and worked with B.C. Hydro to examine electrical records before moving in with a search warrant about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The plants were in the early stage of growth, but a mature plant can produce three ounces of marijuana.
