Firefighters extinguish Langford brush blaze
Jul 29 2012
The Langford fire department battled a brush fire near the Western Speedway Saturday evening.
At its largest, the fire measured about 23 metres by 30 metres on a steep slope of arbutus trees on Millstream Road, just behind an RV park.
"It was a bit of a challenge for the guys to get the hoses up the hill, but once they did, they quickly knocked the fire down," said Deputy Fire Chief Kerry Zado.
Zado said 13 firefighters fought the blaze for about two hours. It was out by 8:30 p.m.
He credited a local resident for notifying the department about the fire, and reminded residents to call their local fire department if they see or smell fire.
