Stolen traps leave fishermen crabby
Aug 16 2012
Some local fishermen had every right to be crabby after someone poached their traps from the waters around James Bay.
One of the victims saw his stolen crab trap for sale online at UsedVictoria.com. He met with the seller, who admitted to stealing a number of traps.
On Aug. 9, Victoria police recovered the stolen traps, some buoys and rope, together valued at $1,300.
"The suspect explained that he was in the middle of financial difficulties and was looking for extra money to help solve his problems," says the Victoria police operations blog.
The man had no criminal history. All the stolen traps were returned to their owners and no charges are contemplated.
